Habitat Grassland, grassy and volcanic plains
IUCN Status Endangered
Striped legless lizards are small, burrowing reptiles that like to live in kangaroo grass and spear grass. They hide from predators by blending in with their surroundings.
They are known to eat moths, crickets and spiders. Not much else is known about their diets except that they are insectivores.
Unlike snakes, legless lizards have visible ears and their tongues are not forked. They can also detach their tails to confuse and escape from predators.
Due to massive reduction of their native grassland habitat, this lizard’s numbers have dropped and dedicated conservation techniques are needed to protect and revive remaining populations.
