UPDATE – Bush Stone-curlew Reintroduction

Our Sanctuary Ecologist is today processing a new batch of Bush Stone-curlew for our reintroduction program. Following releases over two previous years in the Sanctuary, we now estimate there are fourteen Canberra curlews. They have been seen more frequently slinking through the night and heard howling to each other on our Twilight Tours and in the suburb of Forde (at the edge of the Sanctuary).

We had our first successful breeding event last year with a chick raised to ‘adulthood’. This years’ batch will be released into the Sanctuary in Spring –boosting our Canberra Curlew population.

The program has benefited greatly from the support of the National Landcare Program, Canberra Ornithologists Group and numerous volunteers from the Friends of Mulligans Flat.

Stay tuned for more photos…
